New York City’s five boroughs have a population of about 8.5 million people. Over 2.5 million of those people live in Brooklyn. This area is diverse in its people and culture. Brooklyn is home to a variety of religions, with Evangelical Protestants making up less than 8% of the population. Our groups that serve in Brooklyn will partner with local church plants as they share the Gospel and make disciples in this location.
The scenic city of Chattanooga is a popular spot for outdoors enthusiasts. Known for its beautiful mountains, rivers, and lakes, Chattanooga has been one of the fastest growing cities in the South for the past 10 years. The metro population of Chattanooga is around 550,000 people, with the suburbs growing at fast rates. Around 60% of Chattanooga residents claim to be “religious,” with Baptists making up about 25% of the total population. Although many claim to be religious, there is still a big need for the Gospel to be shared and local churches need help.
The “Jewel City” is typically best known as the home of Marshall University. Many people may not know that this small town in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains is also home to an opioid crisis. Much like several cities and towns throughout the Appalachian region, residents of Huntington have struggled with loss of jobs, which often leads to drug and alcohol abuse. Our partners and local churches around Huntington are striving to share the living hope of Jesus Christ with people in this region. Your team can help us share this Good News!
Orlando is one of the most visited cities in the US, with over 74 million people coming each year to see Disney World and the surrounding attractions. For the residents of Orlando, about 24% of the population identifies as Evangelical followers of Jesus. Your group can help us minister to both the local population and the visitors who come to Orlando. We work with local churches and other ministries to share the love of Christ with people throughout the Orlando region.
Houston is the largest city in Texas, and the 4th largest city in the US. With a population of over 2.3 million people, Houston is a melting pot of ethnicities and religions. Space City is often referred to as the most racially and ethnically diverse major city in the US. Groups that come and serve with us in Houston will get to experience ministry in different settings and locations. Local churches and ministries need help reaching their ever-changing neighborhoods with the Gospel. You group can help these partners by using your gifts and talents for the Kingdom.
Hildale is a border town in southern Utah. The border area surrounding Utah and Arizona is locally known as Short Creek. This area was formerly dominated by a cult called the FLDS. The FLDS was a spin-off from the Mormon religion that still believed in polygamy. Their leader, Warren Jeffs, (who had 79 wives) set himself up as “the prophet” in this town and dictated how everyone lived. After Jeffs went to prison to serve multiple life sentences for marrying underage girls, the town was left without a leader and without hope. These people desperately need Jesus and the hope that only He can bring. Daystar is working with partners in this are to help bring the Gospel to a people who are living in darkness and difficult to reach because of past hurt. Your group can serve alongside local church plants and ministries to help bring hope!
Rapid City is a town of about 75,000 people. It is commonly known as the home of the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore. The homeless population in Rapid City has increased over 50% in the past 5 years. Many of these homeless people are Native Americans. Just an hour and a half south of Rapid city is the Pine Ridge Reservation, which is home to more than 20,000 Lakota people. There are many needs there on the reservation, including a need for outreach and evangelism. Groups that come and serve in South Dakota will be able to participate in ministry in an urban setting in Rapid City as well as a rural setting on Pine Ridge Reservation.
Wasilla is a beautiful town of about 10,000 people and is located one hour north of Anchorage. Groups that come to serve in Alaska will be able to partner with churches and ministries in Wasilla and Anchorage. This area in known for harsh climate, beautiful geography, isolated communities, and intense spiritual needs. The open window for groups to come and serve is May through August. Groups will be able to partner with and assist sustainable ministries.
